Across the ABC-13 Viewing Area - A last-minute attack in the gubernatorial race has angered the Lynchburg Voters League.
Members are mad about a mailer from Brian Moran targeting Terry McAuliffe.
The mailer questions McAuliffe's support of President Obama, and seems to target local African Americans. The Voters League says it's just a ploy to distract people before the polls open.
Rev. James Coleman, Lynchburg Voters League - "These last ditch desperation efforts are uncalled for."
The mailer features a statement Terry McAuliffe made on a comedy show during the presidential campaign last year. You may remember he was a major Clinton backer.
Coleman - "'Kiss my a** Barack' is a statement that does not reflect the heart of Terry McAuliffe today."
The Voters League hosted a rally for McAuliffe in Lynchburg Sunday, just days after endorsing him. They say he has become a strong Obama supporter.
But Moran defends the mailer.
Brian Moran, (D) Candidate For Governor - "Terry McAuliffe was taking credit for electing Barack Obama (web | news | bio) . That's like the rooster taking credit for the sunrise. He spent two years trying to defeat him."
Moran has been hitting McAuliffe hard throughout the campaign.
Moran - "I just finished a Fighting for Virginia tour of Appomattox, Charlottesville, Harrisonburg, Staunton, Roanoke, Martinsville and received a great deal of support."
Terry McAuliffe, (D) Candidate For Governor - "What I am paying attention to is my get out the vote operation."
But a new poll now shows State Senator Creigh Deeds in the lead. At a stop in Danville, he says he's still not letting up.
Sen. Creigh Deeds, (D) Candidate For Governor - "I am just pumped up to continue talking to undecided voters and make sure we get the right turnout."
Because experts say many voters are not energized about this primary.
Deeds - "We are pressing the case everywhere. We have spent the last couple of days on a whirlwind around Virginia."
The new poll by Public Policy Polling shows Deeds leading with 40%, McAuliffe behind with 26% and Moran last with 24%. These last few hours are crucial, since ten percent of voters are still undecided.
