Amherst Co., VA - Amherst County's director of economic development is behind bars Thursday night after turning himself in on a child sex charge.
John Joseph Mulvey is charged with attempted aggravated sexual battery with a child under the age of 13. Mulvey turned himself in on Thursday afternoon.
Amherst police say the family of the victim reported the crime in March, and the following week Mulvey was placed on administrative leave.
This is the investigation where information was leaked to the defense, creating turmoil between former county administrator Rodney Taylor and members of the Board of Supervisors.
Mulvey is being held without bond.
