Danville, VA - A Pittsylvania County animal rights group wants to start taking action immediately to improve the animal shelter. The Animal Welfare League says so far, they're pleased with the county's response.
The league didn't know what to expect before going in front of the board of supervisors last week, but they say it looks like the board is more than willing to help.
The league wants the county to provide an adequate space for the animals, extend operating hours and lower the euthanasia rate. And they want it all done as soon as possible.
Ginger Sellers with the Animal Welfare League said, "I feel like with the board not necessarily on our side but willing to work with us I think it could be done within 3-6 months that's what we're hoping for."
The league says they plan to meet with supervisors sometime in early July.
