Long Island, VA -
The Campbell County Sheriff's Office says you may not see as many officers at next year’s Fun Float Festival. Sheriff Terry Gaddy says very few festival goers camped at Long Island Park the entire weekend. He says next year's presence will be based on how many people they expect to attend. About 30 officers from multiple agencies eliminated alcohol use during festival. Gaddy says drinking led to lewd and violent behavior in past years. Campbell County's parks are non-alcoholic venues, and the sheriff does not want that kind of activity in the parks. Though their crackdown turned away the some people, deputies say more families enjoyed this weekend's event and they hope that continues, but some campers say there was too much law enforcement this year.
Buddy Faulker, Fun Float Camper says "Last year was real rowdy and all that. So you gotta weigh the options, but it's been a little stricter than I've ever seen it. Maybe a little overkill... seriously."
