College football practice is still a month away, but the Hokies are already dealing with some tough injury news. Redshirt junior receiver Brandon Dillard, one of the stars of April's spring game and one of the fastest players in school history, is out for the season.
This after rupturing his right Achilles tendon Tuesday evening in player-organized passing drills. The Martinsville native and walk-on had worked his way up to the number one spot at flanker and was expected to help the Hokies alleviate the loss of their top four receivers to graduation last season.
Dillard has already redshirted, but could apply for a medical redshirt waiver. He'll have surgery next week, then will have 4-to-6 months of rehab.
