The Hillcats opened a nine-game homestand Wednesday night at Calvin Falwell Field, the first three against their 460 rivals, the Salem Avalanche. Jared Keel's two-run homer in the second ran the Hillcats' lead to 3-0.
Third baseman Jim Negrych extended his hitting streak to 14 games, Negrych went 2-for-4 with a double on the night. Lynchburg erupted for four more runs in the third, Chris Jones's RBI shot up the pike made it 7-0, Alex Presley also drove in two with a double.
The Hillcats' Brian Holliday shut down Salem the first three innings before the Avs got three in the fourth. Mark Ori homered and two batters later Jimmy Van Ostrand drives one over Presley's head in center plating another run. Bottom of the frame, though, Jamie Romak got one back, belting his 15th homer of the season.
Lynchburg takes the opener over Salem 10-4.
In the Appalachian League, the first-place Danville Braves had their four-game winning streak snapped tonight at home by the Burlington Royals. Burlington beat the Braves 5-1, Danville still a strong 12-and-4 on the season.
Pulaski picks up a game on the Braves, the Mariners edge Bristol 8-7.
And one American Legion score phoned in, Big Island knocks off Vinton 11-4.
