One man is dead after a police-involved shooting at a Sheetz gas station. Police were on the scene in South Boston late Wednesday night, trying to piece together exactly what happened. And police are still not telling us much.
We do know that an officer did the shooting, and that one man is dead. That's why State Police tell us they're conducting a criminal investigation, but they did call the dead man, the "suspect." The shooting happened Wednesday evening. Witnesses tell us they saw police chasing down a man.
Police haven't confirmed how many people were involved, but we did see one man in handcuffs standing next to police. Right now officials tell us there's still a lot to be done to figure out what happened.
Sgt. Dave Cooper, VA State Police - "We'll do photographs, witnesses will be interviewed sometimes they even bring what they call a total station where they'll actually reconstruct shots fired through a windshield or something like that."
Police say there's no reason for anyone to be alarmed. And they also tell us they expect the officer involved to be put on administrative leave.
