Fireworks are being blamed for a large house fire in Buena Vista. Firefighters say the house wasn't a total loss, but say there was about $60,000 worth of damage. It seems the residents didn't realize the fireworks were not completely out. Firefighters say the family was enjoying Independence Day with fireworks. Then, they put them away in a plastic tote in the garage. Soon after, flames engulfed that garage and spread through the attic. This is eyewitness video a viewer gave us. Firefighters say the smoke and flames made this fire look much worse than it was. Saturday morning, several people were on hand helping the fire victims recover. Luckily, they were able to salvage many things. But firefighters say tackling the blaze was challenging.
Tommy Keiser, Fire Chief - "It was so smoky inside the structure that we could not find a good way to get into the attic. Once we found a good way to get into the attic, we put it out fairly quickly."
Luckily, nobody was hurt in this fire. We're told the residents displaced should have a place to stay.
