Domestic violence victims will soon have a new safe haven in Campbell County, thanks to the fundraising efforts of St. Peters Episcopal Church. Church members raised more than $92,000 for Frannie’s House, a new domestic violence shelter in Altavista.
Wednesday night, the money was given to the YWCA of Lynchburg...which is helping to establish the new center. Officials say there were more than 400 domestic violence crimes in the county last year, so Frannie’s House is definitely needed.
Rev. Karen Joy Kelly, St. Peters Episcopal Church - "It will provide an opportunity for victims in Altavista, in Campbell county and in northern Pittsylvania an opportunity to find safety closer to home."
Frannie’s House will be able to house about 8 women and their families. The group now wants to raise enough money to cover costs for the first year before opening its doors.
