Virginia National Guardsmen are gathering Friday at Fort Pickett to receive orders for a special mission to Afghanistan. The two 16 man teams will be training the Afghani Army and Police Forces. From Fort Pickett, the soldiers will head to Fort Riley, Kansas for two months of training.
The training units include five soldiers from our area, including former Campbell County Sheriff's Captain, Col. Mike Harris. Col. Harris will be commanding the mission. Each of the soldiers were hand-picked for their ability to adjust to a different culture.
