Kinston and the Hillcats played the rubber match of their three-game series Friday night at Calvin Falwell Field, the last of nine straight home games for Lynchburg. The 'Cats going for their sixth-straight series win.
Two-time winner of the Hillcats' Most Popular Player Award, Pedro Powell, back in town tonight to throw out the first pitch. Powell released by the Pirates but looking to hook on with another team. The Hillcats began the night in first place, one full game ahead of Potomac.
Kinston, though, took the early lead as Jared Goedert reaches out and pokes an RBI double off Daniel Moskos to the gap in right center. The Hillcats collected 10 hits tonight but didn't get on the scoreboard until the fifth, Jared Keel with a baseknock here.
But Kinston got four in the sixth and the Indians win big. Kinston 8, Lynchburg 4.
Also in the Carolina League, Salem was rained out at Myrtle Beach.
Appalachian League, Danville rolls over Burlington 12-2, Pulaski stays right on Danville's heels, edging Kingsport 6-5.
