Three years ago Wednesday in Bedford County, four loved ones were lost in a wreck. And the pain is still there for the families. We went with them as they visited a roadside memorial. They go there every year, but it's not getting any easier.
John Myers, Justin Angell's Father - "It's hard to believe. It don't seem like it's been three years."
Three years since John Myer's 15-year-old son Justin Angell died in a car wreck with three other teenagers. 16-year-olds Marquee Epperly and Joshua Hale, as well as 14-year-old Skyler Wilson were riding in a car driven by Hale.
Wednesday evening friends and family gathered at the crash site to remember their lost loved ones. But there's still a void.
Myers - "Sitting down to eat supper's tough, because of the spot sitting at the table."
He says there's no accepting Justin's death.
Myers - "You tolerate it... learn to tolerate it. That's about it."
And remember the good things Justin had.
Myers - "I was glad he was able to find love. He was able to find a true love.
Angell's girlfriend, Cheyyene Spradlin cherished the time they spent together.
Cheyyene Spradlin, Justin Angel's Girlfriend - "I just miss him a lot."
Cheyyene - "I loved being with him."
For Joshua Hale's father, all he has are the memories.
Len Hale, Joshua Hale's Father - “And you visit every memory, and usually the memory takes you to tears. But you don't avoid going to the memory."
No number of tissues can catch the tears Len Hale has cried.
Hale - "In the three years, I'd say they ain't many days where I haven't cried hard, and I'm ok with that."
Len keeps the area around the memorial clean, and says he'll never let his son's memory float away.
Hale - "If I'm 85 years old, and if I can still get down here, I'm going to keep coming down here."
Hale tells the crash story to young drivers just starting out on the road. He wants them to realize that just five miles per hour can mean the difference between life and death.
