A two car accident has an 11-year-old boy clinging to life. The wreck happened Wednesday night on Route 460 in Appomattox County around 6:30. State Police say an SUV and a mini-van collided at the intersection in front of the Wendy's.
Four of the passengers in that van -- children. A witness saw the whole thing.
"We were standing in the store and we saw the van start turning and we see kids just start flying out."
State Police tell us the people riding in the van got the worst of it. The van was being driven by the Chappell family of Appomattox. The passenger, Darrell and his 11-year old son were medevaced to UVA Medical Center. We're told the boy is in serious condition this morning, while Darrell's injuries are non-life-threatening. Everyone else involved in the crash went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The accident shut down both lanes of 460 here for about a half-hour.
