Enjoying your Friday night at home? If Governor Kaine had his way, we'd all be spending more time at home -- working. The governor has asked all state agencies to consider tele-working. He says it's a way to avoid rising fuel prices and ease traffic congestion.

Adrian Parris has been tele-working for about five years now for the Department of Taxation. He used to work in an office in Roanoke, but now works from home. He likes the flexibility, but says it has its drawbacks.

Adrian Parris, Tele-worker - "One of the disadvantages is the isolation and the difficulty with training new people that come on board, finding a place to meet when you want to hold a staff meeting."

At the Department of Taxation, nearly 600 employees tele-work. The government estimates that saves more than 45,000 gallons of fuel annually.

It wasn't I that changed the subject of this story, it was Parris. If all he can do is name some disadvantages, that tells me that he's a crybaby. What about the advantages like not cutting his salary, saving money on fuel costs and vehicle maintenance, which would've come out of his own pocket if he used his own vehicle. He's got advantages that the general work force doesn't have and he's griping?

On the other hand, I agree with the tele-working idea. It would probably save more than 45,000 gallons annually and would cut down on traffic conjestion to a point.
