As hot as it is out there today, Liberty University (web) is thinking of snow skiing - but without the snow. LU has finalized plans for their new ski slope on campus. And they're just about to start construction.
This will be the first slope of its kind in the US using a synthetic material designed to simulate snow. Liberty officials recently visited a synthetic ski slope in Europe to get ideas. LU received a donation to cover the $2-million price tag. Jerry Falwell Junior is convinced this will help change the image of the Christian school.
Jerry Falwell, Jr., Liberty University Chancellor - "It was known for its rules and regulations and dos and don'ts, we want Liberty to be known for the good wholesome fun and well-rounded experience that students have here."
The construction of the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center will be featured on future episodes of the Daily Planet on the Discovery Channel. So, before it’s even built, this slope will be generating publicity for Liberty. And, because it's synthetic, you can use it year-round. Anyone is invited to use it. The slope should be open early next year.
