Fans who endured the rainy weather at City Stadium saw a good game from the Hillcats. In the bottom of the first the Cats had the bases loaded and no outs and they almost came away with nothing until Miles Durham came through with a two-out single to center that made it 2-1 Lynchburg.
The very next batter is Jared Keel and you could hear the crack of the bat. This one was a no-doubter. All the left fielder can do is look up. That was the first of Keel's two homers on the night. He had 5 RBIs. It's 5-1 Cats.
Lynchburg starter Brad Lincoln, the Pirates 2006 first round pick, pitched well in his home debut. He went 5 innings, gave up 6 hits and 3 runs while striking out 3 for the win.
The Hillcats win it 9-to-3 in a rain-shortened 6 inning game. They head out on a 10-game road trip starting Friday.
Also in the Carolina League, Salem falls 2-to-1 to Winston-Salem. The Avs now 10 games back of first place.
-----
Appy League, both area teams take a loss. Danville 4-1 to Bluefield and Pulaski...5-zip to Burlington.
And Dixie Youth State Championship game in Grayson County, 9-and-10-year-olds, Rustburg American fell to Charlotte County 7-4.
