A truck driver is now charged with reckless driving in Thursday morning's crash between two tractor-trailers on Route 29 in Pittsylvania County.
State police say at about 4:30 Thursday morning a truck carrying rolls of paper lost control on Route 29 between Gretna and Altavista and hit an embankment. It flipped over and ended up across both southbound lanes. A second tractor trailer then hit the first -- police believe at full speed because at the time it was pitch black outside.
The driver of the first truck, 41-year-old Jeff Carbone from Red Oak, got out safely, but he's charged with reckless driving.
The driver of the second truck, who state police say is 74-year-old Robert Reichert of Pennsylvania, was airlifted to Lynchburg General Hospital, where we're still waiting to hear his condition. As of 1:20 p.m. he was in stable condition but was going to be admitted to the hospital.
