One race in Virginia that does not seem likely to be a tight one is for the US Senate. Polls have Mark Warner ahead of Jim Gilmore by a strong 57-32 margin. Warner spent time campaigning in Roanoke Thursday.
We asked him about the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. A congressional hearing took place about possibly changing that policy. Warner says he supports the military's policy, and that he wants to listen to military commanders before backing any changes.
Mark Warner, (D) U.S. Senate Candidate - "You do have this question of the military not being able to meet its recruitment efforts, and I think there is an active debate going on within the military right now reexamining it, but I'm going to take my lead from our military leadership."
We asked Gilmore for his thoughts on changing the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. His spokesperson had no comment.
