Pittsylvania Co., VA - In Pittsylvania County, you cannot buy beer or wine on Sundays, but that may soon change. On Monday night, county supervisors will discuss putting the issue to voters on the November ballot.

This issue has been on the ballot before, about five years ago. It failed in every district, but this year, if it makes it to the ballot, some are convinced it'll pass.

It's a dry county, when it comes to Sunday beer and wine sales, but that’s something supervisor Fred Ingram wants to change.  "We're not telling people to drink alcohol, we're just telling them to do their business at home because we need to keep all the business we can inside Pittsylvania County," Ingram said.

Especially right now, when times are tough.  "We need to help the small business, all businesses as much as we can," Ingram said.

The owner of One Stop Market in Gretna, Bill Foster, couldn't agree more. For him, the solution is simple.  "The county needs the revenue and the people need the beer," Foster said.

He's convinced those who want beer or wine will find a way to get it.  "They're gonna get it somewhere so why not here or down the road or up the street somewhere in the county," Foster said.

Employee Tracey Brumfield says it'd bring in more money, but at a price.  "It'd be good financially for the customers coming in. The purchases would be a lot but I think for the community its just better and its something that's more important than the extra little money that we'd make," Brumfield said.

A price that Pastor Terry St John at Hollywood Baptist Church doesn't believe county residents will agree to.  "I'm of the old school as the bible says we're to remember the sabbath and keep it holy and I believe that's God's day," St. John said.

For him, alcohol doesn't sit well with God. But for Ingram the two are unrelated.  "Its an economic issue, its not a religious issue," Ingram said.

The meeting starts at 7:00 p.m. Monday. And supervisor Ingram says he believes the board will agree to let the citizens decide.
