Lynchburg, VA - So many people have bought Mega Millions
(web) tickets that the jackpot has grown from $325-million to $333-million. This is the second largest jackpot ever in the game's history.
The chance has people taking higher risks. Some gamblers spent upwards of $200. Even though 12 states play for the big win, Virginians are confident someone here will win.
“Nobody in Virginia has it this big so I think it's time for it to come our way,” one lottery ticket buyer said.
"I'm telling people that's walking in there right now save their money, because I have the winning ticket," Booley Bolling said.
Whether they're rookies or professionals, winners or losers, one thing is certain- they're having a ball and spending a lot.
Chevron Gas Station just off of Fort Avenue said one of their first customers bought $140 worth of tickets.
They tell us, when the jackpot gets this big nothing can surprise them. "Actually it wasn't a shock. I've done 200 at a time," Priscilla Adams said.
As for what they'd do with the money... “I would put my family in a nice home,” one person said.
“I'll probably have an early retirement, take a few cruises, travel around the world, do a few things I've always wanted to do."
$333-million may sound high, but in 2007 the jackpot reached $390-million. That set the record for North America, but it could be outdone if no one wins Friday night.
