Sweet Briar Students Take to the Water in Cardboard Boats
posted 4:43 pm Sat September 22, 2007 - Amherst Co., VA
Saturday Sweet Briar College had some fun in the water at its fourth annual Cardboard Boat Regatta. The rules- each boat must weigh less than 20 pounds and participants must use less than 50 feet of duck tape per boat. From there, it comes down to creativity.
Seven different teams made up of students from engineering classes at Sweet Briar raced the 256 yard course. Awards were given in four different areas- speed, design, buoyancy, and overall champion.
Andria Pasquel, Sophomore -- "It was a lot of work but it was definitely worth it to see our boat come in first."
Elizabeth Wise, Freshman -- "That was a harder than I thought, got around the first buoy and I was a little bit tired, a little bit winded."
The race was part of this weekend's homecoming events at Sweet Briar College. Our own Ishmael LaBiosa emceed the event.
