No more long drives for checkups for Lynchburg area Veterans. The Hill City's new VA clinic opened Tuesday morning. About 6,000 vets will benefit from the new facility. We're told one veteran showed up needing help with some stitches and left satisfied.
Gary Stewart, Administrative Officer - "He loved the experience. He loved the doctors. And when he left, he said 'I am sure glad you are near', because he would have had to go all the way to Salem to have that procedure done."
Lenn Morris, Bedford Veteran - "I think it's wonderful, a whole lot less mileage. And you don't have to go through all the Roanoke traffic."
The facility does not have a dental or eye clinic. And the vets will have to go elsewhere for major procedures.
