A permanent memorial for a soldier who died serving his country in Iraq (web|news) . His church, West Lynchburg Baptist, is seeking city permission to build a playground in his memory. They say it's a very fitting tribute to Private First Class Jason Scheuerman.

There was something special about Jason Scheuerman. His dad told us about it shortly after his son died back in 2005.

Chris Scheuerman, Jason's Dad - He had a bond with children that was very special. He would come into a room and little kids would just gravitate."

Now family and friends say he will continue making an impact on young lives though, what they call, JJ's Playground.

Kim Shumaker, Church Trustee - "Whenever kids were involved in something, he was in the middle."

But depression crippled him and he took his life. His mom told us about an e-mail he sent her.

Anne Scheuerman, Jason's Mom - "It just said, ' sorry I can't deal with this anymore' and said goodbye in the email."

Shumaker - "He was extremely outgoing."

And very involved at West Lynchburg Baptist. Now even area residents are thrilled to be honoring his memory.

Tom Woodford, Church Member - "How could you not be supportive when you look at the playground, what it means."

Jason's parents and church members are chipping in to build the playground in land near the church.

Woodford - "A real modern type of playground. They are all over the city parks. We are going to put in a good one."

Something that is lasting and special. The planning commission already gave the park unanimous approval.

City council members will consider the issue on October 14, and if all goes according to plan, the park should be complete sometime around Thanksgiving.

Talkback: Memorial for Soldier in the Works

We do what we can to keep them alive. We try not to be bitter because we know that had someone cared they would still be here. If they had gotten "Strength with support" like the pin on their beret says. They believe it, they trust it. Then the military is not there for them when they need it. We pray to find forgiveness in our heart. Our faith becomes stronger then it was before because we need it more then ever before. To believe they are still with us, their spirit energy. I know your son is well aware of that playground and how proud he must feel right now. My faith is strong and I believe that our loved ones exist in the next life. I thank God every day for the blessing of 25 years.  When we say the "Our Father" we focus on; " forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us"; thats when we beg the Lord to help us find forgiveness in our hearts for those who cared so little about the emotional warfare going on in thier heads; those who could have helped them. Faith saves us, God supports us and takes care of our boys now.

The Lord hears good people when they cry out to him, He saves them from all thier troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted, and He saves those whose spirits have been crushed.
                                        Psalms 34: 17-18

I spoke with your wife about my own son.
You are in my prayers,
