Workers Laid Off at Another Area Plant

About 40 people in Nelson County will be laid off in three weeks. American Fibers & Yarns is shutting down, due to rising costs of raw materials.
The company has a plant in Afton and another in Georgia. That one employs roughly 240 people. Both will stop production on October 17. Company officials say they still hope to find a buyer to keep the business going, but there are no prospects at this time.
