Appomattox Co., VA - In northern Appomattox County, the small church that was home to Reverend Neiderbrock is mourning the loss of its pastor.
Richard Samuel Alden McCroskey III is charged with killing him.
Neiderbrock headed Walker's Presbyterian Church for the past six years. His loss is a huge one for the community, not only because he was their spiritual leader, but also because pastor Neiderbrock was a friend to those most in need.
Marvin Glover is the Clerk of the Session at Walker's Presbyterian Church in Hixburg. He's now the senior leader, after the death of Pastor Mark Neiderbrock.
"I can't grasp that he is gone," Glover said. "It's a close knit church. We are all pulling together, one supporting the other and crying on each other's shoulders."
Glover says Neiderbrock helped him through a bout with cancer. And the pastor did the same thing for many others in the church.
"He was excellent, he was a friendly friend to everybody, he was a good leader," Glover said.
Elder Luther Glenn said,"I think right now, we are in shock. We really hope that some way or another, it didn't happen."
Glenn's mother also suffers from cancer. Neiderbrock met with her every week.
"He'd been looking out for everything, all of our concerns, I think we're really going to miss him. One thing that's going to help us is God is on our side," Glenn said.
When it comes to offering forgiveness, Glover says that's up to God because he's not ready to forgive.
"I'm angry at anybody who would do such a thing," Glover said.
"I hope he is punished to the fullest extent of the law," Glover said.
Members of the congregation say they expect Pastor Neiderbrock will be buried in the church cemetery. Funeral plans will be finalized on Tuesday.
