The week before, the Hokies lost starting rover Davon Morgan for the season with a torn ACL. Saturday, more bad news as Tech lost starting tailback Kenny Lewis, Jr. for the season.
The Danville standout ruptured his Achilles tendon on this play in the third quarter. Lewis led the Hokies in all-purpose yards. Now Tech will go with two redshirt freshmen, Darren Evans and Josh Oglesby as their 1-2 punch at tailback, the only ACC team to feature two freshmen in the two-deep at tailback. Losing Morgan and now Lewis tough blows for the Hokies.
Frank Beamer, Hokies Head Coach - "You know very positive, put so much into this whole thing, and I hate to see that. I hate any injury but I hate to see those two kids go down."
Darren Evans, 8 Rushing TD's in First 6 Games - "Like I said, he was the leader of our bunch. And with him being down, him not being around like that, somebody has to step up."
