Lynchburg, VA -
With just 5 days left until the Election Day, plenty of voters are ready for it all to be over. The longest presidential campaign in history is finally coming to an end. But election fatigue has certainly set in for many.
We talked with volunteers at the local campaign headquarters. The volunteers for both John McCain (web|news|bio) and Barack Obama (web|news|bio) say they're running on full tilt because this week is their final push before the majority of voters cast their ballots on November 4th. But some of the volunteers say the folks on the other end of the line can't wait for November 5th.
Ghana Ramey, Obama Volunteer - "Yes is Yavona or Raymond Strange available?"
Ghana Ramey is just one of a dozen callers at Barack Obama's Lynchburg Campaign Headquarters. She makes more than 60 calls a night to local voters. Most of the folks she calls are pleasant, but some, well, are not.
Ramey - "I did get one call tonight. Some lady, a person said, 'Just please don't call here anymore. I don't want to hear no more about it."
Ramey can't get enough politics.
Ramey - "Personally, I'm not ready for it to be over. I could go another month. But, I hear a lot of people say, 'We're ready for this to be over with. We're ready for Tuesday to come."
File Shannon Allison under that category. The Pennsylvania native says the campaign volunteers won't stop pushing.
Shannon Allison, Suffering From Campaign Fatigue - "I've gotten so many phone calls, 'Have you sent your absentee ballot in, have you sent it in.' They're calling my house, and I live in Pennsylvania. So my mom's like, 'Have you sent it in yet, they keep calling."
A month ago Allison was all swept up in the election excitement.
Allison - "But now, I'm just ready for it to be over."
Robby McCanna, Republican Volunteer - "O.K. Well thank you very much then, have a good evening."
Robby McCanna makes calls during the evening for John McCain.
"Well over a hundred."
McCanna and his fellow volunteers say people are ready for a decision. But in the final days, there's no room for fatigue.
McCanna -"We do wear down, but we keep chugging along."
Volunteers for both campaigns say they know there are valuable undecided voters out there. In fact, Robby McCanna says 15-percent of the people he calls are still undecided. Just more of a reason to keep burning those phone lines.
