Franklin County, VA - New information about a weekend shooting involving two Ferrum College students. School officials now say an argument over a female led to the gunfire.
A spokesperson for Ferrum College says two students have been released from the hospital after the shooting Sunday morning. College spokesperson, Natalie Faunce, says the students were at an apartment about five blocks from the college campus when an altercation broke out with a suspect.
One student was shot in the leg and was brought to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. A bullet grazed another student’s leg and that person was taken to Franklin Hospital in Rocky Mount.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is now searching for the gunman, who is not believed to be a Ferrum student. With alumni returning for homecoming weekend, Faunce says there were an above average number of visitors on campus.
LETTER FROM FERRUM COLLEGE TO CAMPUS:
Following an off-campus shooting incident that occurred after midnight, Sunday, October 11, 2009, both Campus Police and the Franklin County Sheriff's Department are aggressively continuing their investigation. The incident occurred at an event that was neither sponsored nor sanctioned by Ferrum College.
