Campbell Co., VA - The Central Virginia Health District is almost finished vaccinating all of the schools in its area against the swine flu. Health officials tell us a quarter of students in the district will get vaccinated.
It's week two of H1N1 vaccinations in schools in Central Virginia.
"It's a massive undertaking. I don't remember us ever having a vaccination campaign quite like this one," Cindee Pletke with Campbell County Public Schools said.
They tell us 4,000 were vaccinated in Amherst, Appomattox, and the City of Lynchburg. They anticipate a total of 3,800 students in Bedford and 2,500 in Campbell County. Monday's response was good for 6th through 12th graders in Altavista.
"They're doing very well. They're very calm. They're very orderly and there's been no drama," Pletke said.
The general public will have to wait though.
Shayla Anderson, PIO Health Educator for the Central Virginia Health District, said, "The important thing to realize is there is a production delay and for people to just remain calm and realize that they will be able to get vaccinated as the shipments come in."
We're told vaccinations will be available to the general public sometime next month. In the meantime health officials continue to remind everyone to:
"Wash those hands, cover your cough, just push that prevention message," Anderson said.
Health officials tell us there is potential for a few make-up dates for students who miss the first round of H1N1 vaccinations in school. They haven't yet set those dates.
