Lynchburg, VA - While Old Forest Road in Lynchburg undergoes construction for a new Walmart, that construction has caused plenty of traffic issues, and business owners are experiencing headaches as well.
Denise Carter, Co-owner of Harbor Inn, said, “I did put out the sign out there yes we are open .To let people know we haven't shut down.
Colorful signs and marquees are just a few way business owners on Old Forest Road are trying to bring in the customers.
“We've created a two for dine for $15.99 we've never did that before,” Carter said.
But even this tactic isn't enough to keep customers coming.
"In terms of our walk in traffic it has slowed down some," floral designer David Heal said.
Heal says most customers would rather avoid the area. But congestion isn't their only problem. Owner of Inspirations Hair Salon Alicia Stewart say they have to be prepared for the unexpected.
"Well they've hit two main water pipes so far, and we're a salon so it's kind of difficult when that happens.”
But, each shop owner will tell you they are optimistic that they will recover when the construction is completed.
“Sometimes you have to take the good with the bad. you have to go through sometime before you can see the silver lining ahead,” Stewart said.
There may be relief soon. Construction site managers have told business owners the construction project is currently ahead of schedule.
