Runners Carry VT-UVA Game Ball to Raise Money
posted 10:26 pm Wed November 21, 2007 - Across Virginia
For the fourth straight year, members of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, the Tech and UVA chapters, will run Saturday's game ball from Blacksburg to Charlottesville beginning Friday. The FIJI Run Across Virginia benefits the V Foundation for cancer research.
One of the Tech runners is former Jefferson Forest cross country member Eric Willoughby, a Hokies freshman. He'll run the ball 4-to-5 miles as part of the Hokies team carrying the pigskin from Blacksburg to Lynchburg.
They'll hand the ball off to the UVA brothers around 10, who will run through the night to Scott Stadium with the ball and a big check for the V Foundation.
Eric Willoughby, Virginia Tech Relay Team - "We're fortunate this year. I think last year we had to do the middle of the night run so this year we get to take part in the day, kind of dodge that bullet."
The FIJI Run Across Virginia hopes to raise more than $30,000 for the V Foundation. Click here for more on the run and to donate.
