Food Bank Donations Down, Need Up.
posted 10:36 pm Wed November 21, 2007 - Lynchburg, VA
The Lynchburg Area Food Bank officials say they've never seen it this bad. Donations are down and the need is up. This year they have given out 200,000 more pounds of food than they did last year. They are still giving to organizations and people in need, but they're not sure how much longer they'll be able to.
Kristi West, Lynchburg Area Food Bank - "We can hardly keep up. I mean we're getting rid of the food as fast as it's coming in here. And it's really sad. It's scary, it really is scary."
The problem isn't only here in Lynchburg, those with the Southwest Virginia Food Bank in Salem say their stock is so low, they're out of turkeys, fresh and canned fruits and vegetables.
