Danville, VA -
The current economic situation has Danville's Salvation Army going through a very rough time. Captain Allen Tanner says nearly 800 families have asked for help. The organization is putting faith in their red kettle campaign, starting the week before Thanksgiving.
But you might see some red kettles before then. Organization leaders say they are in desperate need for people to donate both their money and their time.
Captain Allen Tanner, Salvation Army - "The red kettle campaign this is really how we survive throughout the year, the money raised in these red kettles stay here in Danville, Virginia and this is how the salvation army stays afloat."
The Salvation Army says they hope to recruit volunteers to man their kettles, in hopes that they can save the money they would pay workers and instead put it toward helping the needy.
