Lynchburg, VA -
If you are among the 1,700 people whose personal information was stolen from White Rock Bookkeeping and Tax Company in Lynchburg, police say you need to start working right now to protect your identity.
We told you about the break-in at the start of the month. Whoever got in took six computers that contained clients' personal financial information, including tax returns. The information is password-protected, but police say that does not mean someone can't find a way to access it.
Cindy Kozerow, Lynchburg Police (web) Department - "Well, I think they do need to be concerned, because they have the potential to be victims. They need to notify the major companies like Experian, Trans Union -- get a fraud alert put out on their name so that if someone does try to open an account, then it's going to put that red flag up."
There's much more about how to set up a fraud alert at the State Attorney General's website. Click here to go there.
