Blacksburg, VA - Once again, a mass murder has been connected to Virginia Tech. Of course, Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 people at Tech in April 2007 before taking his own life. Now- Nidal Hasan's rampage.

The community wants to reach out to those feeling the same pain they felt more than two years ago.

“It's really too bad, and I really don't understand why these things keep happening," Virginia Tech Student Arielle Strong said.

"I do think it's such a tragic coincidence that such things happen," Virginia Tech senior Bien Nguyen said.

A coincidence that two of the deadliest mass shootings ever in the US have links here. Both Seung-Hui Cho and Army Major Nidal Hasan attended Tech.

Virginia Tech Director of News and Information Mark Owczarski said, "The world is filled with sad and tragic stories. And sometimes they do intersect with our community."

Owczarski says Hasan received a degree with honors in biochemistry nearly 15 years ago. Hasan was not a member of the ROTC program or the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. Owczarski says Tech isn't focused on its link to Hasan, but how it can reach out to Fort Hood.

"If we can contribute in some small way to help that community heal and recover, we want to do that," Owczarski said.

The university community remembers how the events of April 16th rocked the campus, and how the well-wishes of a nation helped them recover. Now they want to lend that same support to Fort Hood.

"Lend a helping hand whatever, we can do just support, and let them know we care and other people care, and you can move on past that," Strong said.

"Just show that we've been through it, and there's people around who understand," Skyler Cooper said.

Owzarski says Tech held a video conference with the Army on Friday afternoon to see if there's anything they can do to help.

The Student Government Association sends their condolences to the Fort Hood community, and says they'll lend their support in any way possible.
