Lexington, VA - School officials say a Virginia Military Institute cadet collapsed and died Saturday. Officials say 19-year-old John Alexander Evans of Highland, Maryland collapsed in his barracks after a 10-mile road march with other freshman. Evans was brought to Carilion (web) Stonewall Jackson Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after noon.

Evans was an International Studies major and a member of the Marine ROTC program. The medical examiner will determine his cause of death.
