Halifax Co., VA - Six months after a Halifax County woman vanished, there's a renewed effort to find clues in her case.  Hattie Brown, 48, was last seen at the Sheetz in South Boston with her nephew on May 16th.

On Tuesday, divers were out searching the water near where her car was found in Virgilina.  At this point, they're doing anything and everything they can to figure out where Hattie Brown might be.

Not a day goes by, that Diane Brown doesn't think about her missing sister.

"Today is the day I'm hoping and praying they will locate her it will be a big relief for the family, it really would," Brown said.

It's been six long months of wondering where Hattie Brown might be.

"Sadly to say, it's the not knowing. If we knew, we could move on from there but at this time its the not knowing," Brown said.

Over the summer, police found Hattie Brown's car, burned an abandoned at a farm in Virgilina.

Not long after that, they declared her nephew, Derek Brown, a suspect. State Police don't have reason to believe she's in the water, but they say they also can't rule it out.

Clay Overholt with the State Police Scuba Team said, "Part of the location here is near where the vehicle was found and so we're just starting to check all the rivers and creeks and bridges."

Overholt says the search will take two to three weeks. He's confident that if there's anything in the water, they'll find it.

"Each area is essentially getting searched twice, sometimes three times," Overholt said.
Derek Brown

Diane Brown isn't expecting to find her sister alive. She's just hoping someone will find her.

"I know it'll be hard if it’s a bad outcome, but at the same time we can accept this and we can just move on," Brown said.

Derek Brown is still considered a suspect, but police say he isn't facing any charges.  Investigators are still searching for leads. If you know anything about where Hattie might be, call police.
