Rockbridge Co., VA - A 911 call is revealing more about the tragic hunting accident that killed a Rockbridge County teen.

Investigators say Codee Clark accidentally shot and killed 15-year-old Victor Clark, while the two were hunting over the weekend.

Rockbridge Emergency Communications released the emotional 911 tape to ABC-13. It details some of what happened Saturday.

It provides insight into the caller's claim that it was an accident, and that he tried to do what he could to provide aid and assistance to the victim.

TRANSCRIPT OF THE CALL:

CALLER: “My friend just got shot. Please hurry.”

DISPATCH: “What do you mean he just got shot?”

CALLER: “Please hurry the gun misfired and shot him. Please.”

DISPATCH: “Where was he shot at?”

CALLER: “Like right below his sternum.”

DISPATCH: “Right in mid chest?”

CALLER: “Yes sir. No, right below the middle of his chest.”

The caller identified himself as 21-year-old Codee Clark.

DISPATCH: “What is your name?”

CALLER: “Codee Clark.”

DISPATCH: “What?”

CALLER: “Codee Clark”

In the recording, Clark says he and 15-year-old Victor Clark were squirrel hunting when the 22 caliber riffle went off. He says the long gun misfired.

Codee Mchale Clark

CALLER: "The bullet was jammed up in there.”

DISPATCH: “Right.”

CALLER: I was getting it out. I had the thing open and I shut the thing and the gun went off.

Meanwhile, Codee Clark did what he could to help the young victim.

DISPATCH: "Stay on the line with me alright."

CALLER: "I can perform CPR, so I've got to try."

Codee Clark is charged with recklessly handling a firearm and involuntary manslaughter, which is a felony. State game officials tell us that it's uncommon, but not unheard of for hunting accidents to result in such charges. In this region of the state, it has only happened three other times in the past seven years.
