The icy roads are believed to be a factor in three deadly accidents Friday. State Police say 76-year-old Thomas Dowler, of Farmville, hit a patch of ice on a Route 460 bridge in Prince Edward County around 7:30 Friday morning.
The van flipped down an embankment. Dowler's 73-year-old wife is in the hospital with unknown injuries. A couple of hours later, state police say 54-year-old Pamela Miller, of Thaxton, ran off Route 691 in Bedford County and hit a tree. She died at the scene.
In Pittsylvania County, 21-year-old Shawn'te Harris died when he crossed into oncoming traffic on Route 863, slamming into a van. The van's driver is doing okay.
