Salvation Army Currently Not Accepting Used Toys
posted 10:33 pm Thu December 13, 2007 - Danville, VA
The Salvation Army isn't accepting used toys right now, due to the number of toys being recalled. The Danville chapter says that recalled list is already pages long, which is why their national chapter made the decision. The chapter says this does not affect their Angel Tree gift collection. They only accept new toys for that program. But the chapter depends on receiving used toys to sell year-round in their thrift shop.
Organizers say the new guidelines are a safety must.
Capt. Allen Tanner, Salvation Army - "I wouldn't imagine that it would come to this or this magnitude, but it has, and we are dillegently working to keep them out of the households."
This isn't a permanent decision. Salvation Army may allow used toys once the holiday season is over.
