Update: Mistaken Identity

Danville, VA - Danville Police (web) say the man they thought they were looking for after escaping custody was instead the victim of identity theft.
Police say they were detaining the man for trying to cash a stolen check. He gave them the name Rueben Cardwell, but got away. Police then put out a bulletin looking for Cardwell, only to find out the suspect had just used his name.
Now they say the suspect has been positively identified as 46 year old Michael Jerome Barksdale. He was wanted for shoplifting. Now Barksdale faces identity fraud and escaping custody.
