Shelley Basinger works in the Lynchburg newsroom as a reporter. She also anchors ABC-13 News Midday.
Shelley's done it all during her time at ABC-13. She spent several months on her "Restaurant Report" series, where she investigated cleanliness at area dining rooms and worked with the owners to do a walk-through of their kitchens. Shelley also enjoys the thrill of politics. She's covered the Election Day events of Delegate Danny Marshall, former congressman Virgil Goode, and Governor-Elect Bob McDonnell. But the highlight of her career so far has been swimming with sharks in Atlanta as part of ABC-13's Virginia Tech/Alabama pre-game special.
Part of the reason Shelley got into this business was to be an active member in the community. She serves as a mentor for Big Brothers, Big Sisters. You'll often see her around town with her Little. Shelley also serves on the Board of Directors of the Junior League of Lynchburg.
Shelley fell into the world of broadcast news at UNC-Chapel Hill. There, she anchored and reported for UNC's live news broadcast, Carolina Week. During college, she also worked as a news intern in Durham, North Carolina. Born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Shelley spent her childhood and teen years competitively dancing. She's left that skill behind (for now) but tries to stay in shape running, preferably outside.
