Friday August 27th - Football Friday Week One
And all that's just leading up to Week One! College practices also begin this week, UVa and Virginia Tech among the teams kicking off fall workouts on Friday.
Switching gears to baseball, Detroit Tigers third baseman Brandon Inge of Lynchburg began his rehab assignment from a broken left hand this week. I miss checking Inge in the boxscores each day. I had planned to see Brandon play in person last week when I was on vacation in Florida. But the former Brookville star broke his hand the week before, rotten luck for Inge and me! The Tigers could have used Brandon, they lost the night I saw them at Tampa Bay, in fact the Rays swept Detroit four straight. Talk about two teams going in opposite directions, the Rays are red-hot, overtaking the Yankees for first in the East, while the Tigers are struggling big-time, dropping to third in the Central, well back of the White Sox and Twins.
When I came back from vacation, I got the great news about co-worker Jeremy Mills and his wife Aimee.
Aimee gave birth to the couple's first child, a girl, Saturday night. Congratulations to the Mills and their new addition, Jeremy will have his baby rooting for the Maryland Terrapins in no time!
That's it for now. Football Friday's special preview show is Friday night, August 20th with Week One of the regular season Friday, August 27th. See you on the gridiron!
