Football Friday's regular season kicks off in less than a week, August 27th!
We got a good taste of action Friday night with some scrimmage games in the area. L.C.A. edged Amherst County 13-11 in a benefit game that does not count in the standings, still you know the Bulldogs are PUMPED to go into Amherst and knock off the talented Lancers. Amherst did have to play without starting quarterback and safety Kirby Anderson, who broke his hand Wednesday. Anderson has already had surgery and is expected to miss four weeks, the Lancers will definitely miss him.
I got to see Liberty take on defending state champion Northside. Liberty fans have got to be thrilled with what they saw from the Minutemen. Anthony Reynolds took the opening kickoff to the house for an early lead, later Chase Key broke a run from scrimmage 69 yards for another TD. Liberty's defense looked strong, junior Corey Witt in on a number of stops. Liberty led 20-6 at the half, and while they didn't keep score in the second half, the Minutemen continued to have the upper hand. it could be a strong season for Coach Chris Watts and Liberty.

Former William Campbell and UVa star running back Cedric Peerman scored a touchdown in the Bengals' 22-9 preseason win over the Eagles. Keep your fingers crossed, hopefully Cedric will make the Bengals squad and stick in Cincinnati.
Brett Favre is officially coming back for one more season. Did you ever think he wouldn't? I'm glad he's back, it'll be fun to see how he fares each week.
On a personal note, it's been an emotional week for the Carter family. We took our only child off to college this week and had to come back home without him. I know it was tougher on me and my wife than it was on Ryan, it had to be!
I know I had to choke back the tears when we hugged goodbye. I know he'll be coming home from time to time, but it just seems like the years passed by WAY TOO FAST.
He's a lot smarter than his Dad (thank goodness!) so I feel confident he'll make a smooth adjustment to college. Mom and Dad?
I'm not so sure.
