As for UVa Marc Verica has essentially sealed up the starting QB job. Mike London had said it's an open competition but he's got no other choice really. Local guy Mike Rocco (LCA) as a true freshman is competing for a backup job at QB but based on what I've heard from London, I don't think he's got a shot to win the backup job. If London thinks he can be a QB in the future he'll probably red shirt him. UVa opens against Richmond at UVa 6pm on espn3.com on sept. 4th.

Liberty will play at City Stadium sept 4th because the renovation of Williams Stadium press box/etc still is not complete. At some level that had to be embarrassing and they are disappointed they don't begin the season at home but just like anything else in life, you have to look at the positive and coach Danny Rocco and RB Korrey Davis (Heritage) both told me on Sunday they think it's an opportunity to get some new fans to an LU game. They think people who don't come to Williams Stadium for games might come to City Stadium. I'll have a story on LU at City Stadium during game week. Check it out.

My Reds are back in first place. I took some days off a couple weeks ago to go home to visit fam and friends and take in a couple Reds games. They played the Cardinals and got swept by the boys of St. Louis. I went to 2 games. The one game I did not go to was the one where the brawl went down. Bummer. That sweep dropped them to 2nd place but they've been playing well on their west coast swing. They start a 3-game series with the Giants on Monday.

Speaking of the Reds, did you see what former Hillcat Devin Mesoraco did? He played for the cats in the spring - tore it up, 10 HRs and plenty of RBIs. He moved up to AA Carolina and started slow there but picked it up later and just this past week he got called up to AAA Louisville. In his first game he hit a WALK OFF GRAND SLAM. Day two, not too shabby either.ANOTHER GRAND SLAM.

Rock it out.
