If Week Two of the college football season showed us anything, it's that you better come ready to play regardless of the opponent.

Virginia Tech had never lost to JMU in six previous meetings, the last meeting in 2003 a 43-0 Hokies rout. The Dukes, though, hung around this time, caused some crucial turnovers and converted those mistakes into points. The Hokies didn't play very well, but credit JMU!

The Dukes pulled off a shocking 21-16 win. Tech just the second ranked team to lose to a lower division team. The other, of course, Michigan when the Wolverines lost to Appalachian State in 2007.

JMU was one of four FCS teams to topple upper-division opponents, one of the others being Liberty. The Flames went to Muncie, Indiana and knocked off Ball State 27-23. Gardner-Webb and South Dakota also pulled off upsets. JMU and Liberty face each other September 25th in Harrisonburg, that shapes up to be a great state rivalry with big national implications.

The UVa Cavaliers nearly delivered a huge upset of their own.

Virginia gave Southern California all it wanted before the Trojans hung on for a 17-14 victory. The Cavs may not have won, but they made it a closer game than most expected. That's got to be a big shot of confidence for Mike London's bunch.

One of the storylines from Week One of NFL action had to be the Redskins beating the Cowboys. Dallas thought it had tied it on the final play of the game on a Tony Romo TD pass, but the score taken away by a holding call on the Cowboys.

And Michael Vick opened some eyes, relieving an injured Kevin Kolb and playing well for the Eagles. Kolb suffered a concussion and would have to be cleared by a number of people to play in week two.

The top Putt-Putt golfers in the world are competing in Lynchburg this week in the Professional Putters Association National Championship. One of them is a 15-year-old young woman from the Czech Republic. The final two rounds of the pro national championship will be held Saturday morning beginning at 9. Spectators can come out and enjoy the action at no charge. You'll be amazed at just how good these men and women really are, they make it look a lot easier than it is!

And don't forget, the Virginia Ten-Miler is right around the corner! Saturday, September 25th is the date, starting at 8 in the morning from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg. This year's special guests for many pre-race activities are tennis greats Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf.
