The Hokies got a win so now what?

GONE - a shot at a national championship that just 3 short weeks ago was viewed as a legitimate thought

STILL ALIVE - an ACC championship and a trip to the Orange Bowl and a 7th straight year with 10 or more wins.

First up is BC at BC, a place VT hasn't won at since 2002. The two schools are 689 miles apart but if there's any rivalry besides VT-UVa that VT has in the ACC it's got to be BC. They've played 5 times in 3 years. For more on the preview, click here.

-------

UVa is at home to face another D-1 AA team (Mike London calls them an FCS team) What do you call that division? UVa vs. VMI.

The Keydets used to be coached by current UVa Def. Coord. Jim Reid. He's a standup guy and has nothing but respect for VMI and its mission. He says VMI players "will never quit" in anything they do. He also says UVa has guys like that too. In fact, Reid has no problem giving high praise to any UVa player (Verica, Ras-I, Inman, etc) I'd like to see what he says about Peter Lalich.

UVa has already beaten Richmond. VMI is not Richmond so UVa should not have trouble with them. If London's team continues to play as they have they should be disappointed if they don't win by more than, say, 20 points.

-------

Liberty is back down to earth. LU had their "finest hour" (the words of Coach Rocco) against Ball State and then one week later they lose against a team that had no business beating them. Robert Morris was a favorite in their conference but LU was ranked 14th at the time. Fans stormed the field after the win. It was a nice college football scene unless you're from LU.

Now what? A trip to JMU - the team that upset VT two weeks ago. Notice the scheduling by JMU's Coach Matthews. They play a big game against VT where his team could need extra rest so he plans a week off to give his team rest BEFORE another big game against LU. (This would have been a good idea for VT coming out of the Boise State game).

Mike Brown says "Last week was a very disappointing loss for us. We're looking to rebound, come together. We'll find out the true identity of our team on how we come out and how we respond.

Rocco says "We're gonna have to bring a game full of passion and intensity but we're also gonna have to have focus and execute and play a technically solid football game to get the win. So hopefully we're on edge."

-------

The Eagles have named Michael Vick the starter. Good idea or bad idea for the Eagles? You tell me. If Kolb is not healthy that's one thing but if you name him a starter you just crushed Kolb's confidence. This will be a developing story not only all season long but ALSO into the off season. Vick's contract ends after this season.

Check out SPORTS CHAT - Dennis Carter and I basically do a video blog of all the games I just talked about and more. It's at wset.com. Then click on the SPORTS section. The video is on the right.

Rock it out.
