If you're out of work or just looking to earn some extra money over the holidays, there's plenty of seasonal work available this year. But now's the time to line up that job.
The outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas estimates that between 500,000 and 600,000 seasonal retail jobs will be created this year. Those numbers are slightly better than last year, but well below the more than 700,000 jobs created three years ago.
The most popular form of holiday work is retail. So who's hiring? Good Morning America's Workplace Contributor Tory Johnson says some of the biggest national retailers are this year. Here are a few of them:
Don't want to work retail? Johnson says sitting services will be big, including pet and babysitters. SeekingSitters.com... a nationwide babysitting service founded in Tulsa... sees a big jump in childcare requests from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve.
