The Rangers and Giants?

OK, how many of you had these two teams squaring off in the World Series? Be honest.

The fact is they deserve to be in the Fall Classic, knocking out the two teams many had pegged for the Series, the big boys, the Yankees and Phillies. TV ratings may take a nosedive, or maybe not. Fans may welcome seeing two new teams play for the big prize.

Regardless of who's playing, it's the World Series! And here's hoping it goes the full seven games!

College football, the Virginia Tech Hokies and Liberty Flames are in very similar situations as they enter their final four regular season conference games. Both are in control of their own destiny. Both are undefeated in conference play. The Flames know if they win out, they are Big South champions for a fourth straight year. But this year, that Big South title earns them an automatic bid to the FCS playoffs.

Same kind of deal for the Hokies. They're unbeaten in the ACC and know if they win out, they're going to the ACC Championship Game, with the winner of that game going to the Orange Bowl. As LU coach Danny Rocco said, "we're exactly where we need to be right now." The Flames and Hokies don't need any help from any other team right now. It's all in their hands. And as coaches and players, you couldn't ask for anything more.

The high school season has really flown by. In just a couple of weeks, we'll be talking playoff games! You'll want to join us this Friday, October 29th for Football Friday at 11:15 when we unveil the 10 finalists for Player of the Year honors. In coming weeks, we'll narrow it down to five and three, then announce the Football Friday Player of the Year on our season finale November 26th, the day after Thanksgiving.

Another high school note. Kudos to the Jefferson Forest volleyball team. The Cavaliers are having an incredible year. They've completed a perfect regular season, undefeated at 23-and-0 heading into district tournament play. Talk about a senior-dominated team. Ten of JF's 12 players are seniors. They would love nothing better than capping their high school careers with a region and state championship. And the way they've been playing, don't bet against 'em!
