Two of the biggest shopping days of the year are coming up... Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Millions of Americans will be doing their holiday shopping with a click of the mouse. But before you start clicking and hand over your credit card info, Kiplinger.com has several steps to protect yourself.
- Never shop online from a public Wi-Fi connection. Hackers can tap into hotspots, such as coffee shops, airports and hotels to capture your personal information.
- Don't use your smart phone to shop. Again, it can be a playground for hackers
- Don't use your debit card. It doesn't have the same liability protection as credit cards do.
- Shop online only at known retailers. Don't let a search engine pick a site for you because it could be bogus.
If you have a question or concern about an online retailer, check and see what the Better Business Bureau says about it. BBB.org is also a good place to go to file a complaint.
